Les pratiques forestières constituaient de nouvelles formes de discipline essentielle à la colonisation. Il existait en effet des relations entre ces pratiques et les institutions coloniales soutenues par la communauté internationale. Les concepts évoluent, dans ce cas sous l'influence des institutions internationales, et les mouvements les plus anciens pour la protection de l'environnement en Asie du Sud-Est ont été ressentis comme des instruments supplémentaires de l'oppression coloniale (REGARDS-CNRS-DF).
