Elle est nocive pour les écosystèmes coralliens mais admise par les autorités, hormis des pêcheurs des îles Kei dans l'archipel des Mollusques (Indonésie), qui tentent de résister. L'objectif de l'article est de dénoncer le romantisme primaire qui consiste à considérer que les savoirs locaux sont de manière inhérente respectueux de l'environnement et soucieux de justice sociale, et d'examiner avec réalisme les dynamiques mises en jeu lorsque des institutions locales sont confrontées et intégrées à des circuits plus globaux de production et de commerce (REGARDS-CNRS-DF).
